THE PLAY
Modern-day farcical comedy, set in a Spanish hotel. The very Northern Tinsley family are on holiday, having been persuaded to go to Spain rather than Blackpool by son Ron, whose ex-girlfriend Gloria just happens to be staying at the same Pension. Apart from the Tinsleys and Gloria and her mother, the only other guest is a German, Herr Grotz. Both Gloria's mother Mildred and Alfred Tinsley's sister-in-law Elsie take a shine to Herr Grotz.
While Ron tries to get back together with Gloria, against Mildred's wishes, pretty Spanish maid Rosita keeps catching his eye. Elsie goes off swimming with Herr Grotz and Alfred's mother-in-law, Grandma Hardcastle, follows them on an air-bed. That sinks, necessitating her rescue, during which she loses her false teeth. Alfred, rather unluckily, sits on the sea-urchins that Elsie has collected and has to endure having the spines removed before mounting a salvage operation for Gran's teeth.
Mildred, meanwhile, tries to seduce Herr Grotz and Gloria uses that as leverage to get permission to get engaged to Ron. Both Mildred and Elsie confront Herr Grotz in the Pension, after Elsie stays out all night with him: both women staking their claim on him. He is politely explaining that he can marry neither of them when his wife arrives...
