THE PLAY
Period comedy, set in 1925. The bohemian Bliss family, parents David and Judith and children Simon and Sorel, each invite a guest to stay for the weekend without telling the others. Each of them, selfishly fed up with the disruption to their plans, determines to ignore all but their own guest. The unlucky quartet of visitors are treated to embarrassing displays of bad behaviour from each of the histrionic Blisses, forced to play word games where they are not told the rules and two of them are even steered into dramatically-conceived engagements to Simon and Sorel. After this ghastly evening is over, the guests sneak away as quickly as possible in the morning. The self-absorbed Blisses barely even notice, except to comment on the rudeness of people these days!
