Welcome to the Cissbury Players
Archives section,
which chronicle the entire history of the group since our debut production back
in 1985.
We have had a paper archive for many years now, started and maintained originally as a private scrapbook by Mary. That, along with whatever other photographs, information and other personal memorabilia I have been able to get hold of, forms the basis of this on-line version. Comments, annotations and much of the fleshing out is being carried out now - in the summer of 2008 - as a part of the exercise. Whilst every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, under the circumstances it isn't absolutely guaranteed: anyone who knows any better is welcome to send in corrections!
Back in the day, it isn't certain that anyone expected the group to go on as long as it has, so there isn't a wealth of material for some of the productions. What there is is sometimes of dubious quality (especially if you can remember what cheap cameras were like twenty years ago. Anyway, we're actors, not photographers). Sadly, some of the early years will probably remain at best sketchily-commented, since few of the original members remain with us now.
Not all of it makes as much sense as it could - even to those of us who were there - that being the nature of having just a few photos and clippings in which to capture a two-hour play that was the end result of three or four months work. If you don't know (or can't remember) the play, a lot of the archive material does come down to some people in various costumes standing around on a stage. I've tried to keep that to a minimum, or - if not - to at least explain what was going on at the time and why it was fun for us. Even so, if it's outright excitement you're after, I recommend typing "extreme sports" into your search bar instead.
For everyone else, this is our history and, actually, we're rather proud of it!

Notes
1. Click on a year or topic at the top to view the associated archives.
2. All cast, crew and other credits are listed in the relevant Programme sections for each production
3. To (possibly) avoid confusion - when actors are fully costumed (e.g: at dress rehearsal) they are generally referred to be their character name first. At other times (e.g: in cast photos) they are generally referred to by their own name first. That may make more sense of some of the galleries...
4. On any photo gallery page, clicking any of the thumbnails will take you into the full-size gallery proper
