Events - February 2011

We're always happy to promote local (and even not-so-local) amateur drama - well, why, not: it's what we do, after all!

Some publicity for a campaign currently doing the rounds, here. I quote the e-mail we received in full:

"Dear All,

Just a quick email to let you know that because of budget cuts, Worthing Borough Council are planning to close the Assembly Hall as soon as possible and the Connaught Theatre in January.  At present they intend keeping the Pavilion Theatre running.

We must try to get the Council to change their mind about the closing of two of the venues. With drastic funding cuts everywhere it will not be easy to save the theatres.  If nothing else, however, the Council must be made aware of local and national support for Worthing's Theatres.

There is a petition to the Council on a special website set up to try and  save the theatres: www.saveworthingtheatres.co.uk.  I do hope you will consider signing the petition.  The Stage newspaper is also being contacted to drum up more support as many famous artistes started their careers at the Connaught Theatre.  If the petition gets enough support then Council rules will force them to reconsider their present closure plans.

Many thanks.
Mike."

More information about the proposed closures has been published in the Worthing Herald, and is available online at their website.

If you wish to oppose the closures, please follow the link below to the petition site and have your say. Please be aware that it will redirect you away from this site.
