01: 1985 - Dirty Work At The Crossroads

Dating back to the inaugural year of the Cissbury Players, this was the set for a melodrama and therefore meant to be larger than life. Technically quite a clever design, with the bank at the bank representing a river (into which one of the characters had to fall) and a panel that slotted into the central position to put a railroad into the backdrop. Interchangeable signs for the cottage completed a multi-scene stage. As a first attempt at fitting a design into the somewhat cramped space of the Hall, it looks effective - although the scenery painting is perhaps a little primitive compared to the work we produce these days.
