09: 2000 - Fingers

This was an interesting set, if only for the audience reaction when the curtains opened!

It was a solid box, underneath all the shabbiness: a country cottage that had been allowed to fall into disrepair and used by multiple squatters since. The steps and landing led "upstairs", where some of the important action had to take place out of sight of the audience but sounding convincingly as though it came from above.

There were few other tricks involved, except for the basic look. As a psychological thriller that had to build up tension, it was quite nice to put a cast of ordinary, respectable people into a fairly horrible setting. Even after the initial detritus had been tidied away and some temporary furniture installed, it remained a dingy and vandalised environment that made the cast look edgy and out of place.
